UK’s Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 7 September at 3pm
Emergency Alerts Test – Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm
The UK Government will run a nationwide test of the Emergency Alerts system at 3pm on Sunday 7 September. This system warns people about life-threatening emergencies like severe flooding, wildfires, and extreme weather.
What to expect:
Your phone may emit a loud siren, vibrate, and read out a message, even if it is on silent. The alert lasts about 10 seconds and includes a link or phone number for more information.
Safeguarding advice:
- If you support someone who is elderly, disabled, or vulnerable, let them know in advance to avoid distress.
- If you are affected by domestic abuse and have a second phone, turn it off before the test to avoid revealing its presence.
Some people affected by domestic abuse (or other abuse), may have a mobile phone (possibly a work phone) concealed from their abuser, which could be revealed by the alert. If you need to, you can opt out of receiving the alert: www.gov.uk/alerts/opting-out

If driving:
Do not check your phone. Stop safely and legally or listen to live radio for updates.
